چکیده

The concept of a Universe undergoing an acceleration in its expansion rate and predicating the existence of dark energy is based on observed deficits in brightness of Type 1a supernovae at high redshifts, amounting to m ∼ 0.3–0.5. We show that the effect of intergalactic graphite whiskers of radii in the general range 0.03–0.07 μm and lengths in excess of ∼5 μm will be to mimic the effects of dark energy in the redshift magnitude relation for Type 1a supernovae. The mean intergalactic density of whiskers required for such an effect is ∼3× 10−34 g cm−3, about 10−5 of the critical closure density.

Does gravity operate between galaxies? Observational evidence re-examined

The redshifts and luminosities of type 1A supernovae are conventionally fitted with the current paradigm, which holds that the galaxies are locally stationary in an expanding metric. The fit fails unless the expansion is accelerating; driven perhaps by ‘dark energy’. Is the recession of the galaxies slowed down by gravity or speeded up by some repulsive force? To shed light on this question the...

Simulating the Effects of Intergalactic Gray Dust.

Using a high-resolution cosmological hydrodynamic simulation, we present a method to constrain extinction due to intergalactic gray dust based on the observed magnitudes of distant Type Ia supernovae. We apply several simple prescriptions to relate the intergalactic dust density to the gas density in the simulation, thereby obtaining dust extinctions that may be directly compared with the obser...

The type Ia supernovae and the Hubble’s constant

The Hubble’s constant is usually surmised to be a constant; but the experiments show a large spread and conflicting estimates. According to the plasma-redshift theory, the Hubble’s constant varies with the plasma densities along the line of sight. It varies then slightly with the direction and the distance to a supernova and a galaxy. The relation between the magnitudes of type Ia supernovae an...

Amount of intergalactic dust: constraints from distant supernovae and thermal history of intergalactic medium

This paper examines the allowed amount of IG (intergalactic) dust, which is constrained by extinction and reddening of distant SNe and thermal history of IGM (intergalactic medium) affected by dust photoelectric heating. Based on the observational cosmic star formation history, we find an upper bound of χ, the mass ratio of the IG dust to the total metal in the Universe, as χ . 0.1 for 10Å . a ...
